The Federal Government has declared all custodial centres nationwide as “red zones” ahead of planned protests demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to a report by ACJ, the directive follows intelligence reports indicating that some agitators might attempt to infiltrate or attack correctional facilities under the guise of the #FreeNnamdiKanu demonstrations.

In a statement, the government warned that any attempt to breach or disrupt activities around custodial centres would be met with firm resistance, describing the facilities as critical national assets that must not be compromised.

The Nigeria Police Force also cautioned organisers and participants against staging rallies near sensitive areas, including prisons and government institutions, citing security concerns.

Security analysts noted that the measure reflects growing government anxiety over the renewed momentum of the #FreeNnamdiKanu campaign, while human rights groups urged authorities to respect citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful protest and avoid excessive use of force.
