The African Democratic Congress (ADC), chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Moses Paul, has said that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, deserves commendation, not criticism for exposing the deplorable state of public schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking on Arise Television on Sunday, Paul said Obi’s recent visit to LEA Primary School, Kapwa, Abuja, where he decried the poor infrastructure, should have sparked government action instead of public outrage against him.
“It’s unfortunate that people like Peter Obi, who speak up about the decay in our systems, are insulted rather than appreciated,” Paul said. “In the FCT, there are primary schools where pupils sit on the floor, classrooms have no windows, and teachers lack toilet facilities.”
He noted that the situation reflects broader leadership failure, recalling that pupils in Abuja were forced out of school for months due to alleged mismanagement of over ₦4 billion in education funds.
Paul called for urgent reforms and greater accountability in AMAC’s administration, stressing that genuine leaders should welcome constructive criticism aimed at improving public welfare, especially in education.
