The camp of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has hit back at Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, after he mocked Obi as a “social media president.”
Obi’s aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, described Wike’s remarks as attention-seeking, saying the minister “thrives on mentioning Peter Obi to stay relevant.”
“How will Wike sell his market if he doesn’t mention Peter Obi?” Tanko quipped. “We are currently holding a massive town hall meeting in Nnewi, Anambra State, with impressive turnout. Wike is the least of our worries.”
Tanko defended Obi’s recent comments on the poor state of public schools in the FCT, insisting that the former Anambra governor only spoke the truth.
“Obi saw dilapidated schools and a clinic with only one nurse on duty. He merely pointed out areas needing urgent government attention. Wike should face governance, not criticism,” he said.
Wike had earlier accused Obi of “playing politics with national issues” during a road commissioning in Mabushi, Abuja, alleging that Obi failed to deliver major projects as Anambra governor and instead saved money for profit.
Comparing their records, Wike said: “Check what we’ve achieved in two years in the FCT and compare it with his eight years in Anambra. You will see who truly loves this country.”
He further dismissed Obi as a “failed party leader,” adding that he would “remain a social media president, not the President of Nigeria.”
