The Lagos State Government has defended its Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), officers following their confrontation with Nollywood actress Sarah Martins, describing their actions as lawful enforcement against the misuse of public infrastructure.

Martins, founder of the Golden Heart Foundation, had accused KAI officials of harassment after being stopped from cooking food for residents along a Lekki street, an encounter that left her with a burnt hand, as seen in viral videos.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said on Friday that Martins was apprehended for using a road median for unauthorised cooking, which violates environmental regulations.

He noted that the action was part of the state’s #KeepLagosClean and #ZeroToleranceLagos campaigns aimed at protecting public spaces.

While acknowledging Martins’ charitable intentions, Wahab urged individuals and organisations to obtain proper authorisation before engaging in such activities.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s aide, Jubril Gawat, also confirmed that the operation was part of broader efforts to maintain order and cleanliness in Lagos.
