The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has distanced itself from the planned #FreeNnamdiKanu protest slated for October 20, cautioning students not to be misled by politically motivated groups.

At a press briefing in Ibadan, NANS President, Olushola Oladoja, dismissed reports linking the association to activist Omoyele Sowore and his allies, calling them “false and mischievous.”

He said, “NANS is not, and will not be, part of any protest influenced by Sowore or any political group.

The matter of Nnamdi Kanu is before a competent court, and protests over a judicial process are inappropriate and unlawful.”

Oladoja warned students against being used for partisan agendas and urged parents to caution their wards.

He also appealed to security agencies to ignore any claims associating NANS with the protest.

Addressing the ongoing ASUU-Federal Government standoff, Oladoja urged both sides to resume dialogue within 72 hours to prevent further disruption of academic activities.

He reaffirmed NANS’ unity and focus on education, peace, and national development, stressing that the association “will not be dragged into political controversies.”
