The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), has called on the Federal Government to reinstate five doctors allegedly dismissed by the management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for their involvement in union activities.

Speaking at a press conference in Lokoja, NARD President, Dr. Muhammed Suleiman, said the affected doctors had been out of work for over a year, describing their dismissal as unjust.

He reminded reporters that NARD had earlier issued a 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address its welfare and policy demands, including the doctors’ reinstatement.

“Our call is simple, bring back the sacked doctors to reduce the burden on hospitals already short of personnel,” Suleiman said.

NARD’s demands also include payment of promotion arrears, salary backlogs, and unpaid allowances dating back five years.

Suleiman warned that continued neglect of the sector could trigger a national healthcare crisis, noting that Nigeria currently has one doctor serving over 9,000 citizens.

He commended the new Acting CMD of the hospital for showing willingness to resolve the issue and urged collaboration with NARD to restore fairness and trust.
