The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano Command, has defended the transfer of inmate Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara to another custodial centre, saying the move followed due administrative process.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan-Kofar Nassarawa, said the transfer complied with operational guidelines and the NCoS Act, 2019, which empowers the Service to manage inmates across facilities nationwide.

He noted that such transfers are guided by security, inmate classification, and rehabilitation needs, assuring that Kabara’s welfare and legal rights remain protected.

“The transfer does not affect the inmate’s legal status, right of appeal, or access to legal representation,” he said.

Kano Controller of Corrections, Ado Inuwa, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to safe custody and rehabilitation of offenders.

An Upper Shari’a Court in Kano had, in December 2022, sentenced Kabara to death by hanging for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
