Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has reportedly been flown to London for treatment after falling ill and losing mobility in his hands and knees.
Sources told newsmen that the 69-year-old minister’s condition was considered serious, prompting his evacuation from Lagos to the UK.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga confirmed Edun’s indisposition, saying, “Yes, he’s indisposed… He suddenly fell ill. He is around and recuperating.”
Due to his illness, Edun missed the 2024 IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., with CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso leading Nigeria’s delegation.
A close ally of President Bola Tinubu, Edun has been central to key economic reforms since his appointment in August 2023.
