Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.
The resignation, announced during Wednesday’s State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa, also includes the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP lawmakers in the state.
Although Alabrah did not confirm Diri’s next political move, sources say the governor has submitted his resignation letter and may be heading to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Efforts to reach the PDP State Chairman, Solomon Agwanana, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone went unanswered. Further details are expected to follow.
