An All Progressives Congress (APC), chieftain has called on President Bola Tinubu to grant a presidential pardon to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, describing the gesture as one that would “write his name in gold” and strengthen national unity.
The APC stalwart said releasing Kanu would reflect true statesmanship, heal political wounds, and ease regional tensions, adding that such an act would be remembered as a milestone of peace and reconciliation in Tinubu’s administration.
He also urged Igbo leaders and southern stakeholders to engage the Federal Government in constructive dialogue to secure Kanu’s release, emphasizing that a pardon would promote fairness and national cohesion.
Kanu, who has been in detention since his 2021 re-arrest and extradition to Nigeria, faces charges bordering on treasonable felony, a case that continues to stir national debate and regional agitation.
