The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, a prominent evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, who passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.

In a statement signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN described Dr. Ukpai as a “towering figure in the Church in Nigeria” whose ministry spanned more than six decades and touched countless lives across denominations and regions.

“Through crusades, teachings, and acts of charity, he devoted his life to preaching the gospel, nurturing faith, and advancing the cause of Christ,” the statement read.

The Christian body noted that Dr. Ukpai’s unwavering passion for evangelism and his message of faith, healing, and hope left an indelible mark on generations of believers in Nigeria and beyond.

CAN extended condolences to his wife, Reverend Dr. (Mrs.) Philomena Uma Ukpai, the entire Ukpai family, and the global Christian community, praying that God would grant them strength and consolation.

“May the legacy of his faith and service continue to inspire the Church and the nation,” the statement concluded.
