The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has mourned the death of veteran labour activist, Comrade Abiodun ‘Aremson’ Aremu, describing his passing as a devastating loss to the labour movement and the Nigerian working class.

Aremu, a respected voice in Nigeria’s progressive circles, was reportedly killed in a suspected hit-and-run on Sunday, October 12, 2025, near his home in Ifo, Ogun State.

In a statement, NLC President Joe Ajaero described Aremu as “a teacher, revolutionary, and tireless defender of justice,” and demanded a full and independent investigation into the incident.

“We refuse to dismiss this as a random accident,” Ajaero said. “The circumstances surrounding his death must be thoroughly investigated by both federal and state authorities.”

Aremu was a founding figure in the Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) and the Joint Action Front (JAF), and he established the Amilcar Cabral Institute of Ideological Studies to promote socialist education.

In his honour, the NLC announced a mass gathering in Ifo, Ogun State, on Thursday, October 23, to celebrate his legacy and recommit to the struggle he championed.

“Comrade Aremu may have fallen, but his ideals live on,” the NLC said. “The revolution continues, and so must we.”
