The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), is partnering with the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), to develop scientifically validated herbal medicines through structured clinical trials.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the initiative will help local practitioners produce safe and effective remedies that meet global standards.

She noted that many herbal products remain unverified because clinical trials are costly.

Adeyeye stressed that only products proven safe and effective can receive full NAFDAC registration, warning that unregulated herbal drugs can damage vital organs.

The partnership aims to bridge traditional and modern medicine, supporting research, clinical validation, and inclusion of approved herbal medicines in Nigeria’s national formulary.
