The Presidency has dismissed reports suggesting that Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, is to be replaced, confirming instead that he is recovering from an undisclosed illness in Abuja.
Presidential sources said Edun, 69, is under medical supervision at his residence and has not been flown abroad, contrary to online reports claiming he suffered a stroke.
“He is unwell but recuperating in Nigeria. If foreign treatment becomes necessary, his doctors will decide,” a senior aide said.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, also confirmed Edun’s recovery, noting, “He is here in Nigeria, not abroad. He is receiving proper care.”
The clarification follows speculation that President Bola Tinubu was considering a cabinet reshuffle.
Edun, who played a key role in the administration’s economic reforms, was excused from leading Nigeria’s delegation to the IMF World Bank meetings in Washington, D.C., with CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso taking his place.
