The Federal Government has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to suspend its two-week warning strike, insisting that all the union’s demands have been addressed.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the appeal on Channels Television on Monday, saying there was “no justification” for the industrial action as the government had met “every single request” presented by ASUU.

ASUU declared the strike on Sunday, accusing the government of failing to honour previous agreements.

The action took effect from midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025, after a 14-day notice expired.

Alausa said the government had paid ₦50 billion in earned academic allowances and budgeted ₦683 billion for rehabilitation of hostels, lecture halls, and laboratories across tertiary institutions.

He added that funds were also provided for staff training and student support through the National Education Revitalisation Fund.

The minister urged ASUU to return to classrooms, assuring students and parents that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to a stable academic calendar.

“There’s no need for this strike,” he said. “We’ve done everything humanly possible to keep students in school.”
