Brazil’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, says he is determined to make history by becoming the first foreign-born manager to win the FIFA World Cup.
The Italian, who took charge of Brazil in May, guided the five-time champions to qualification for next year’s tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Japan in Tokyo, following a 5-0 victory over South Korea, Ancelotti said, “No foreign-born coach has ever won the World Cup, but there’s always a first time.”
He praised his players’ blend of skill and teamwork, describing their performance as a return to “beautiful football.”
The Selecão will be without star forward Neymar, sidelined with a thigh injury, but Ancelotti expressed confidence in his potential return.
“If Neymar is fit, he can play in any team in the world,” he said.
