The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s decision to grant clemency to several convicted drug traffickers, calling it a setback to Nigeria’s anti-narcotics campaign.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, on Sunday, the ADC described the action as an “irresponsible abuse of presidential powers” that undermines law enforcement and damages Nigeria’s global image.
The criticism follows the release of a 2025 presidential pardon list containing 175 names, including drug offenders, Maryam Sanda, and historical figures such as Herbert Macaulay and Maj. Gen. Mamman Vatsa.
While the presidency defended the move as a humanitarian gesture, the ADC warned it could embolden traffickers and erode confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.
