The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS), has called for official recognition after aiding the police in arresting armed robbery suspects linked to the killing of Arise News staff, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, in Abuja.
Assistant Commander General of the NFSS (North Central), Abdulhakeem Ibrahim, told journalists on Saturday that his team worked with the police to apprehend five suspects terrorising Zuba and its environs.
He said the arrest followed a joint operation after the gang attacked a hotel in Zuba.
The suspects were intercepted at a checkpoint set up by NFSS operatives, leading to the arrest of their driver and recovery of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and a pump-action gun.
Ibrahim appealed for government support and legal backing, saying NFSS operatives risk their lives to assist formal security agencies.
He commended the Nigerian Army, police, and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their cooperation in security efforts.
