The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a man, Chukwuma Onwe, for allegedly selling his five-day-old son for ₦1.5 million.
Police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrest in Abakaliki on Saturday, disclosing that the baby was recovered from the buyer, Chinyere Ugochukwu, who is also in custody.
Ukandu said the suspects were arrested in the Azugwu area of Abakaliki after Onwe’s partner, Philomena Iroko, raised the alarm upon discovering the sale.
Iroko said Onwe deceived her into believing he had taken their child to his sister for care. “Thank God my son has been recovered and he is healthy,” she said.
The police said investigation into the incident is ongoing.
