The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has suspended the radio and TV tax imposed on residential properties following widespread public backlash.
In a statement on Friday, Maikalangu directed the Revenue Department to halt collections and withdraw demand notices already issued. He said the policy would be reviewed to ensure fairness and better stakeholder consultation.
The tax, initially introduced to boost revenue for development projects, will now apply only to commercial establishments such as hotels, offices, and restaurants.
Maikalangu reaffirmed his commitment to responsive governance and thanked residents for their feedback, assuring that new guidelines on the revised policy will soon be published.
