President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following controversy over the authenticity of his academic certificates.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the President’s acceptance, noting that Tinubu thanked Nnaji for his service and wished him well.

Nnaji, who blamed his resignation on “sustained blackmail and political persecution,” insisted that his credentials from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), were genuine.

The controversy deepened after UNN reportedly issued a letter disputing his 1985 degree, which his aide, Robert Ngwu, described as “politically motivated.” Nnaji has filed a suit against the university, with the case adjourned to November 10.

The Enugu State Government dismissed claims of political persecution, urging Nnaji to clear his name.

His resignation follows that of former Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Dr. Betta Edu, making him the second cabinet member to exit Tinubu’s administration amid scandal.
