Suspected car thieves have stolen an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus belonging to the police unit of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Abuja.
A security source told our correspondent that the white bus, with registration number FG283 U10, was stolen on Monday at the Gwarimpa Corner Shop area.
The vehicle, assigned to the INEC police unit, was reportedly parked by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who had gone to visit a friend nearby.
The source said the theft occurred during a rainfall and was discovered shortly after the rain stopped.
The officer immediately reported the incident to the Gwarimpa Police Division and the FCT Police Control Room.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said she was yet to receive official details of the case but promised to verify with the Gwarimpa Division. As of press time, the vehicle had not been recovered.
