An Abuja-based lawyer, Victor Giwa, was on Wednesday arraigned before an FCT High Court sitting in Apo over allegations of forgery and impersonation.

Giwa and his co-defendant, Ibitade Bukola, were docked before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie on a three-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, false personation, and fraudulent execution of documents.

According to the prosecution, the duo allegedly forged a letter on June 28, 2024, using the letterhead of Awa U. Kalu (SAN), to the Attorney General of the Federation, seeking to stop Giwa’s arraignment in another criminal case.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty. Prosecuting counsel Asaph Eristo urged the court to remand them in custody, but defence counsel, Edwin Anikpenu (SAN), applied for bail, citing Bukola’s status as a nursing mother.

Justice Onwuegbuzie rebuked the defence for making an oral bail request and denied bail for Bukola, ordering her remand at the Suleja Correctional Centre. Giwa, however, was granted ₦30 million bail with two sureties, both civil servants not below Grade Level 16.

The case was adjourned to October 15, 2025, for continuation of trial.
