A group of Abuja-based lawyers has petitioned the New York Attorney General to investigate the financial dealings of Sahara Media Group Incorporated and its founder, Mr. Omoyele Sowore.

The petition, dated October 7, 2025, was filed through Heartland Advisors & Solicitors and submitted to the U.S. Embassy in Abuja.

It was signed by Barristers Sunday Oluwole and Felix Olanrewaju Wolemiwa.

The lawyers urged the U.S. authorities to audit Sahara Media Group’s finances, including its $1.3 million MacArthur Foundation grant, to verify compliance with New York’s nonprofit laws. They also requested a review of Sowore’s tax filings and U.S. property records to determine if charitable funds were diverted for personal or political use.

The petition alleged inconsistencies in Sowore’s asset declarations to Nigeria’s INEC, citing reports of an undeclared U.S. property and questioned his financial capacity based on his reported income versus known expenses.

The group also referenced a 2018 GoFundMe campaign for Sowore’s political movement that was briefly suspended over transparency concerns.

The petitioners called for a full audit, investigation of potential misuse of funds, and suspension of Sowore’s U.S. travel documents pending the probe’s outcome.
