A young man identified as Lawal Ibrahim has been stabbed and seriously injured by suspected phone snatchers in the Dagiri community of Gwagwalada Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident occurred around 9:47 p.m. when Ibrahim was returning from a shop near the LEA Primary School in Dagiri.

Eyewitnesses said two unidentified men on a motorcycle accosted him and attempted to snatch his phone before stabbing him in the right arm.

A resident, Samaila Alhassan, said he heard Ibrahim’s cries for help and rushed to the scene, where he found him lying in a pool of blood.

Members of the local vigilante group were immediately alerted and took the victim to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

A vigilante member, Dahiru Usman, confirmed that the attackers escaped with the victim’s phone after the assault.

He lamented the increasing cases of phone snatching in Dagiri and neighbouring communities such as Bako, particularly at night.

A police officer attached to the Gwagwalada Division, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation has been launched to track down the perpetrators.

The attack adds to the growing wave of phone snatching incidents across parts of the FCT.

Recently, a man identified as Zaiyyanu Lukman was stabbed and robbed of his phone by hoodlums in Old Kutunku, another community in Gwagwalada.

Residents have continued to urge security agencies to intensify patrols and strengthen surveillance in vulnerable areas to curb the rising menace.
