The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has expressed strong support for the Federal Government’s nationwide Integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccine Campaign, urging parents and caregivers to ensure that every eligible child receives the vaccine.

Delivering a goodwill message at the official flag-off of the campaign on Monday at the Conference Hall of the Aso Villa, Abuja, CAN President, Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okoh, described the initiative as a bold and commendable step toward reducing preventable childhood deaths and strengthening Nigeria’s public health system.

He noted that the integration of measles-rubella, polio, anti-malaria, and neglected tropical diseases interventions reflects the government’s seriousness and commitment to safeguarding the health and future of Nigerian children.

“As faith leaders, we understand that the health of the people is central to national development. A healthy population is the foundation for productivity, innovation, and peace,” Archbishop Okoh stated.

He revealed that CAN had earlier mobilized its five blocs in readiness for the mass rollout of the vaccine following a courtesy visit from the Measles-Rubella coalition earlier in the year, reiterating the Church’s continued commitment to supporting public health initiatives.

The CAN President commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her leadership and advocacy in championing the campaign, as well as the Federal Ministry of Health, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and other stakeholders for their dedication.

He called on parents, caregivers, and community leaders across the country to take advantage of the opportunity to vaccinate their children, emphasizing that collective effort was key to building “a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous Nigeria.”

Archbishop Okoh concluded by praying for continued wisdom for national leaders and success for all efforts aimed at improving the well-being of Nigerians.
