The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has urged officers and men of the Corps to prioritize their health and physical fitness to enhance operational efficiency and overall performance.

Dr. Odumosu made the call after leading personnel on a 10-kilometre route march across Abuja on Saturday, a physical training exercise designed to build endurance, strengthen teamwork, and promote the spirit of comradeship within the Corps.

The march, which began at the FCT Command Headquarters, took participants through major routes including Wuse Market, Wuse Zone 3, Wuye Bridge near NAFDAC, and Berger Junction, before returning to the headquarters.

Speaking after the exercise, Dr. Odumosu emphasized the importance of physical fitness in tackling emerging security challenges.

“Regular training keeps us ready to face threats with confidence and discipline.

“This route march is a reflection that we are fit and prepared to combat vandals and drive them completely out of the FCT,” he stated.

He commended the enthusiasm displayed by officers during the maiden edition of the exercise and reiterated his commitment to strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to maintain peace and security across the capital territory.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Deputy Commandant of Corps and Acting Director of Sports at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Oladipo Lawal, applauded the initiative and encouraged similar activities nationwide to boost personnel performance and morale.

The exercise concluded with free medical checks, massages, and recreational activities including tug of war, table tennis, hand wrestling, and the traditional Ayo game.

In a related development, the FCT Command had earlier deployed 4,500 personnel to ensure a safe and peaceful 65th Independence Day celebration in Abuja and its environs, according to a statement issued by Dr. Odumosu on September 29, 2025.

A group of armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, have murdered an Abuja-based veterinary doctor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, and abducted his three children in a tragic incident that has thrown the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), into mourning.

Dr. Ogbu, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT Chapter, was reportedly attacked at his residence along the Kubwa-Kaduna Road on Friday night.

The assailants allegedly stormed his home, abducted him and his children, and later dumped his lifeless body by the roadside.

News of his death was confirmed in a Facebook post by Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, who wrote: “Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa, Abuja, has been found dead. The children are still in captivity. May God intervene.”

The killing has sparked widespread grief and outrage among residents and professional colleagues, who described Dr. Ogbu as a humble, dedicated, and compassionate professional who made remarkable contributions to animal health and welfare in the FCT.

His death leaves behind a grieving wife and family, who are now pleading for the safe release of his abducted children.

Friends, colleagues, and residents of Kubwa have condemned the incident and decried the worsening insecurity in the FCT, lamenting that even respected professionals are no longer safe in their homes.

The tragic development comes barely a week after the killing of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, an Arise TV journalist who was shot dead during a robbery in the Katampe area of Abuja, incidents that have heightened public anxiety over rising violent crimes in the nation’s capital.

As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding Dr. Ogbu’s murder or provide updates on the whereabouts of his kidnapped children. Efforts to reach police authorities for comment were unsuccessful.

The Nigerian Army Headquarters has directed the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2nd Division, Ibadan, to immediately relocate to Kwara State to lead operations against armed groups following a wave of deadly attacks that claimed the lives of at least 12 forest guards and several residents.

The order comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara South and Kwara North, where gunmen reportedly ambushed forest guards and community members, leaving others injured or abducted.

Local hunters and guards were said to have repelled the attackers, killing several in the process.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye, condemned the killings as “shocking and painful.”

He commended the bravery of the hunters and forest guards who resisted the assailants, urging residents to remain calm and avoid reprisals that could fuel communal conflict.

The governor also called for increased security deployments to restore peace.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, however, criticized the state government for allegedly downplaying the scale of the crisis.

He accused authorities of suppressing casualty figures and demanded a more transparent account of the security situation.

According to the Army, the GOC’s relocation is aimed at ensuring swift coordination of counter-insurgency operations and reassuring residents of the government’s resolve to safeguard lives and property.
