A group of armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, have murdered an Abuja-based veterinary doctor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, and abducted his three children in a tragic incident that has thrown the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), into mourning.

Dr. Ogbu, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT Chapter, was reportedly attacked at his residence along the Kubwa-Kaduna Road on Friday night.

The assailants allegedly stormed his home, abducted him and his children, and later dumped his lifeless body by the roadside.

News of his death was confirmed in a Facebook post by Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, who wrote: “Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa, Abuja, has been found dead. The children are still in captivity. May God intervene.”

The killing has sparked widespread grief and outrage among residents and professional colleagues, who described Dr. Ogbu as a humble, dedicated, and compassionate professional who made remarkable contributions to animal health and welfare in the FCT.

His death leaves behind a grieving wife and family, who are now pleading for the safe release of his abducted children.

Friends, colleagues, and residents of Kubwa have condemned the incident and decried the worsening insecurity in the FCT, lamenting that even respected professionals are no longer safe in their homes.

The tragic development comes barely a week after the killing of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, an Arise TV journalist who was shot dead during a robbery in the Katampe area of Abuja, incidents that have heightened public anxiety over rising violent crimes in the nation’s capital.

As of the time of filing this report, the FCT Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding Dr. Ogbu’s murder or provide updates on the whereabouts of his kidnapped children. Efforts to reach police authorities for comment were unsuccessful.
