The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has dismissed claims that Nigerians have lost confidence in the electoral process, describing them as unfounded.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said the surge in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) shows the opposite.
He noted that 5.3 million Nigerians had registered online by September 21, less than five weeks after the portal opened.
“Youths are leading the surge. The notion that Nigerians have lost confidence in the electoral process is more of a myth than a reality,” Oyekanmi told newsmen.
He highlighted that physical registration, which began on August 25, recorded 764,695 completions in its first month.
Oyekanmi further argued that the 2023 elections produced Nigeria’s most diverse National Assembly since 1999 and that recent bye-elections also affirmed voters’ trust in the process.
