Abuja played host to a gathering of Nigeria’s political elite on Saturday as Dr. Chikamkpa Amaechi, son of former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, tied the knot with his bride, Anita Nwabueze, in a solemn church wedding ceremony.
The event drew an impressive roll call of dignitaries, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark.
Others in attendance were former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, alongside many other political leaders and prominent personalities.
Officiating minister, Rev. Fr. Steve Dedua, urged the newlyweds to build their marriage on patience, trust, and faith in God.
He reminded them that marriage is a sacred covenant instituted by God and cautioned against the growing global trend of divorce, citing a 2023 survey ranking Nigeria 11th worldwide.
“As God made them male and female, they are now united as one. What God has joined together must remain inseparable,” he said, encouraging the couple to be a model of stability.
At the reception, Governor Otti advised Chikamkpa and Anita to prioritize communication and dialogue, stressing that disagreements should be resolved peacefully and without delay.
“Understanding and dialogue form the backbone of marital harmony,” he noted.
The grand celebration came a week after the couple’s traditional marriage ceremony, also held in Abuja.
