The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), has announced that passenger train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route will resume next week following weeks of suspension.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, said the decision followed the successful completion of repairs and safety checks on the affected section of track at Asham.

“The service was temporarily suspended after the unfortunate incident of August 26. Since then, the corporation has worked tirelessly to restore both the infrastructure and rolling stock to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices,” Unyimadu stated.

He disclosed that, in line with its commitment to passenger welfare, the NRC had refunded 512 of the 583 passengers on board the affected train, while efforts were ongoing to reach the remaining passengers.

Unyimadu expressed appreciation to passengers for their patience and understanding, assuring the public that safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain the corporation’s top priority.

He also acknowledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders during the period of recovery.

“Further details on the official resumption date and schedule will be communicated in the coming days,” he added.
