The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a 16-year-old domestic worker after her employer allegedly poured hot water on her in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page Friday, NAPTIP said the rescue followed a tip-off from neighbours, who also rushed the victim to a hospital after witnessing the assault.
The agency disclosed that the girl, from a family of 12 in Imo State, had been employed to care for her employer’s three children, including two-month-old twins and a seven-year-old boy.
According to reports, the employer scalded the teenager with hot water during one of her night shifts.
“Alert neighbours quickly rushed her to a hospital and immediately contacted NAPTIP, prompting a swift rescue operation,” the agency stated.
NAPTIP confirmed that investigations have commenced and vowed that “all individuals involved in this heinous act will face the full weight of the law.”
