The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has assumed control of the prosecution of Oba Adedayo Shyllon, the Alagbado of Agbado, Ogun State, who is on trial for allegedly cyberstalking and threatening the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
Justice Abiodun Adeyemi of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, granted the request after the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation applied in a letter dated September 16, 2025.
The court’s directive, issued on September 24, ordered that copies be served on the Inspector-General of Police, the AIG Zone II Lagos, and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police for compliance.
Oba Shyllon faces two counts of cyberstalking and threats to life after the Alake petitioned security agencies, alleging that the monarch issued online threats against him.
The defendant, however, denied the allegations, claiming instead that he was a victim of malicious publications.
He noted that he had earlier petitioned Zone II Police in Lagos against the publisher of the report.
The AGF’s takeover underscores the federal government’s seriousness about the case, which pits two prominent traditional rulers against each other.
The matter, which has drawn widespread public attention, has been adjourned to October 29, 2025, for continuation of trial.
