The National Assembly has extended its annual recess by two weeks, moving its resumption date from September 23 to October 7, 2025.

Lawmakers had embarked on recess on July 23 with plans to reconvene on Tuesday. However, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana Esq., announced the new date in a statement issued on Tuesday.

In the notice titled “Reschedule of the Resumption Date of Plenary Activities in the National Assembly,” Ogunlana explained that while plenary sessions remain postponed, activities of various committees will continue.

“I am directed by the presiding officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly to inform all members and the general public that the resumption date earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September 2025, is postponed to Tuesday, 7th October 2025.

“All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are requested to take note of the new date and adjust their schedules accordingly. Any inconvenience caused by this rescheduling is deeply regretted,” the statement read.

Though no official reason was provided, sources within the Assembly suggested that the shift may be linked to preparations for Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration on October 1.
