First Lady Oluremi Tinubu says her Oluremi @65 Education Fund has raised over N20.4 billion for the completion of the National Library in Abuja.

Speaking at a birthday lunch with State House correspondents, Mrs. Tinubu said she chose the project as her legacy gift to the nation instead of cakes or adverts.

She noted that libraries shaped her life, citing her 12 years on the Senate Committee on Education, and described education as central to national development.

“I want to clear the air about some people saying it has a political undertone. What is wrong in doing well?” she said.

Reacting, former Anambra governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, commended her gesture but faulted the government for relying on donations to complete such a critical institution.

He said neglecting the education sector while wasting resources on frivolities reflects “a deep national failure.”
