The trial of suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on cybercrime charges was stalled on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The proceeding was adjourned after her lawyer, Ehiogie West Idahosa, SAN, raised a preliminary objection challenging the court’s jurisdiction.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was granted bail on self-recognition on June 30, faces a six-count charge under the Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act, 2024. The Federal Government, through the Director of Public Prosecution, Mohammed Abubakar, alleges she transmitted false and harmful information.

Specifically, she is accused of claiming on April 4, 2025, in Ihima, Kogi State, that Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed former Governor Yahaya Bello to have her killed.

Although the prosecution announced readiness to call its first witness, Justice Mohammed Umar ruled that the defense’s objection must be heard before the trial could proceed.

The matter was adjourned to October 20, 2025, for hearing of the objection and possible commencement of trial.
