Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that forward Cole Palmer will not undergo surgery for a recurring groin injury.

Palmer was forced off just 21 minutes into Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, sparking concerns over his fitness.

Addressing reporters on Monday, September 22, 2025, Maresca said the medical team advised against surgery, opting instead to manage the issue “day by day.”

He praised Palmer’s determination to keep playing despite not being fully fit, describing him as a key figure in the squad.

The 22-year-old will, however, miss Tuesday’s League Cup tie against Lincoln City.

Maresca also confirmed that midfielders Romeo Lavia and Benoît Badiashile remain unavailable, though both have returned to training.

Academy players are expected to bolster the squad for the cup fixture.
