The Federal Government has established a committee to investigate the cause of an explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), complex in Kaduna State.
The explosion occurred at the Ordnance Factory Disposal Pit, where expired explosives and hazardous materials, including ammonium nitrates, primer caps, and propellants were being destroyed.
Officials reports confirm one fatality and several injuries following the blast. The injured personnel are being treated at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
A Board of Inquiry was instituted by DICON to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the accident and recommend measures to avoid a recurrence.
The Defence Headquarters expressed regret over the incident and stated that operations have been brought under control. The surrounding community has been reassured that there is no ongoing danger.
