The U.S. State Department has warned it will revoke visas of foreigners who glorify the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, assassinated during a university event in Utah on Wednesday.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said on Thursday that consular officials had been directed to act against social media users promoting violence or hate.

Writing on X, Landau condemned posts that praised or mocked the 31-year-old Trump ally’s death, urging users to flag such content for review.

“Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” he said.

Kirk, a prominent figure among young conservatives, was shot dead while addressing students, an incident that has fueled the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration and visa oversight.

The State Department has already revoked over 6,000 student visas this year for overstays and legal violations.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also prioritized revoking visas of individuals linked to anti-Israel protests on U.S. campuses, citing a law that allows cancellations on foreign policy grounds.

Visa applicants are now required to keep their social media accounts public for vetting, a policy critics say contrasts with Washington’s condemnation of European curbs on online speech, particularly against far-right groups.
