Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged residents to destroy mosquito breeding sites, test before treatment, and trust the healthcare system as the state intensifies efforts to reduce malaria prevalence to below one percent.

Speaking at the mid-term evaluation of the IMPACT Project and Pathway to Malaria Pre-Elimination Programme in Lagos on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu said transparency, digital reporting, and community participation are driving progress.

He stressed that Lagos must become a “shining example” of malaria control in Nigeria and West Africa.

Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, commended Lagos for pioneering digital integration of pharmacies and medicine vendors, describing it as a “game-changer” that will shape national policy.

Lagos Health Commissioner, Prof. Akin Abayomi, revealed the state is now in the pre-elimination phase, with prevalence down to about one percent.
