The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), has called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), to include its members in the ongoing empowerment programme.

Speaking in Abuja, the FCT Chairman of RTEAN, Musa Saidu Zuba, said the union’s requests for land allocations to build and manage motor parks have been consistently ignored.

“The FCTA is giving land to estate developers, school proprietors, public toilet operators and traders, but when it comes to our profession, they hand them to private developers and expect us to squat inside parks owned by companies,” Zuba said.

He described the practice as unfair and tantamount to double taxation, noting that terminals in Nyanya, Area 1, Area 3, Beggar Junction, and the multipurpose terminal under construction in Mabushi had all been allocated to private developers.

While commending FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for “massive infrastructure development” in Abuja, Zuba urged him to address the shortage of bus stops and motor parks, warning that the gap forces many drivers to operate illegally on roadsides.
