The Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained security agencies from harassing or arresting the Oloja-elect of Lagos, Prince Abiola Olojo Kosoko, pending the determination of a substantive suit.

Justice Musa Kakaki granted the interim order following an ex-parte motion filed by Kosoko’s counsel, Chief A.S. Abimbola.

The injunction restrains the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone II (Onikan, Lagos), DCP Adamu Bello Muhammed, CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, Inspector Ebere, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, and the Olumegbon Ajah Chieftaincy Family Property and Investments Company Limited from “harassing, attempting to arrest, detaining, or otherwise violating” Kosoko’s rights to liberty, dignity, and fair hearing.

The dispute stems from the succession and recognition of the Oloja of Lagos, a prominent royal title. Prince Kosoko, a descendant of the Kosoko royal family, alleged that he has faced intimidation and threats since emerging as Oloja-elect, accusing certain individuals of using security operatives to obstruct his recognition.

Justice Kakaki emphasized that constitutional rights must not be infringed, particularly in traditional leadership contests.

The case was adjourned till tomorrow for hearing of the motion on notice, with directives for notices to be served on all respondents.
