The Catholic Women Organization (CWO), of St. Benedict Parish, Lokogoma, Abuja, has extended a lifeline to underprivileged children in the community through its annual back-to-school program, awarding scholarships and educational support to eight deserving students.
The initiative, which took place on September 6 under the leadership of CWO President, Mrs. Gold Agbata, marked the fourth edition of the program during her tenure.
It is designed to ease the financial burden of education on indigent families while promoting literacy and academic excellence.
Chairperson of the planning committee, Mrs. Rita Anyanwu Joseph, praised the commitment of the women who contributed to the program’s success.
“The program’s achievements were made possible by the tireless efforts of committee members and the CWO women who gave their time and resources to ensure everything was well executed. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their dedication,” she said.
This year’s edition featured the award of full scholarships to three students covering their WAEC and NECO examination fees, while five others received books and stationery to support their learning.
Expressing gratitude, the women credited divine providence for the success of the initiative.
“We thank the Almighty God and our Mother Mary for guiding and blessing this program. Indeed, His hand was evident throughout the planning and execution,” Mrs. Agbata noted.
Beyond financial relief, the CWO stressed that the initiative seeks to inspire hope and motivate children to pursue education with renewed determination.
“This program is not just about giving out materials; it’s about building the future. We are a family of blessings and care, and through Mary our Mother, we succeed,” the women affirmed.
The St. Benedict Parish Lokogoma CWO’s intervention adds to growing community-led efforts across Nigeria to tackle educational inequality, particularly as many families struggle with rising costs of living and schooling.
