Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has declared that South Africa will approach their clash against Nigeria’s Super Eagles with full focus on securing their own destiny in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Hugo Broos’ men face the Super Eagles in a Group C matchday eight showdown at the Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, on Tuesday (today).
South Africa currently top the group with 16 points from seven matches, while Nigeria sit third with 10 points.
Victory for Bafana Bafana would keep them firmly in control of their qualification hopes.
Williams, speaking to Safa.net, stressed that his team is determined not to rely on results elsewhere.
“The most important thing is to get the job done. We do not want any favours from anyone; we want to do things our way,” the goalkeeper said.
He recalled past disappointments where South Africa’s fate depended on other teams, adding that those experiences had strengthened their resolve.
“We learnt a hard lesson a few years ago when our destiny was in other teams’ hands and obviously things didn’t go our way. So, we learnt and grew as a team, and now we want to do things ourselves,” he added.
Tonight’s highly anticipated clash kicks off at 6:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. Nigerian time).
