The Military Pensions Board (MPB), has alerted pensioners and the general public to a fake WhatsApp group created in its name.

In a statement issued Monday in Abuja, Relations Officer Aliyu Mohammed said the group was set up by unknown individuals and has no link to the board.

He stressed that the MPB communicates with pensioners only through its official channels, including verified social media handles, press releases, and recognized statements and urged retirees to confirm information through official contacts before acting on it.

The warning comes amid rising cases of online fraud, where scammers impersonate government agencies to deceive retired personnel and veterans.

Such groups often spread misinformation or make false promises to exploit vulnerable individuals.

The MPB is mandated to administer and disburse pensions and gratuities to retired military personnel, ensuring timely payments and serving as a point of contact for resolving pension-related issues.
