The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has confirmed the discovery of a decomposed body inside a vehicle parked at the annex gate of the National Assembly complex in Abuja.

The deceased, identified as 55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar, a Tiv man believed to have been working as a labourer at a construction site within the Assembly grounds, was found on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF.

Security and medical officials said the body was initially evacuated to the National Assembly Clinic for confirmation before being taken to Asokoro General Hospital.

However, hospital officials declined to admit the remains due to the advanced stage of decomposition.

Community leaders from the Tiv ethnic group later intervened, transporting the corpse to Gbawu village, a border settlement between Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and Kuje Area Council, where he was buried to avert potential public health risks.

The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Iwar’s death.
