Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have condemned the recent killings in Borno State, urging urgent reforms to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

In a post on X, Atiku expressed sadness over the loss of lives, including soldiers, describing the violence as a painful reminder of the high cost Nigerians continue to bear.

He faulted the government’s failure to protect citizens and pledged that under his leadership Nigeria would “return to the path of peace, unity, and progress.”

Obi, in a separate statement titled “Nigeria Bleeds, Needs a Declaration of War on Insecurity Now,” lamented the spate of bloodshed across several states over the weekend, calling it stark evidence of a full-blown security emergency.

He urged the government to launch a national war on insecurity and suspend foreign trips by officials, warning that “investors will not come into a war zone.”

Both leaders stressed that Nigeria needs a decisive shift in strategy to restore peace and stability across the country.
