Former Zamfara State governorship candidate, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has called on the military to take swift and decisive action against insurgents, aligning with recent remarks by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa.
Shinkafi urged the armed forces to collaborate closely with the Zamfara State government in tackling banditry, cautioning against what he described as the politicization of security matters by Abuja-based politicians.
He also reminded President Bola Tinubu that government’s foremost duty is the protection of its citizens.
The former chairman of the Zamfara State Committee for the Prosecution of Bandits criticized what he termed delayed military responses, saying troops often cite waiting for orders from Abuja even while communities are under attack.
According to him, the state government has provided intelligence and advanced technology to track bandits, yet decisive action is lacking.
“It is obvious that banditry in the state can end within two months if there is collaboration between the military and the state government,” Shinkafi asserted, adding that the missing factor is political will.
He appealed to both the CDS and President Tinubu to intervene urgently to safeguard lives and restore peace in Zamfara.
