The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has filed a suit against the Inspector General of Police at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the legality of the new tinted glass permit policy.

The policy, introduced by IGP Kayode Egbetokun in April 2025, is described by the NBA as unlawful and an infringement on Nigerians’ fundamental rights.

In the suit filed on September 2, the NBA’s Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL), argued that the policy has no legal foundation.

The association further alleged that fees collected for the permits were being diverted into a private account belonging to Parkway Projects, raising concerns of corruption and lack of transparency.

The NBA also accused police officers of harassing and extorting motorists even before the official enforcement date of October 2, warning that the policy undermines citizens’ rights to privacy and freedom of movement.

The suit, which is yet to be assigned to a judge, represents one of the most high-profile legal challenges against the police by the nation’s foremost legal body.
