Lagos will host Africa’s first-ever E1 Series electric boat racing championship on October 4-5, 2025, marking a major leap for sustainable sport on the continent.

E1 Series CEO Rodi Basso confirmed the city’s selection after a competitive bidding process, describing it as “a milestone for sport, sustainability, and commerce in Africa.”

The championship will showcase cutting-edge electric-powered boats, highlighting how innovation in marine transport can address environmental challenges.

Deputy Chief of Staff Sam Egube said the event affirms Lagos’ readiness to stage world-class spectacles that merge speed, sustainability, and innovation.

He added that it aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s climate action agenda while providing a powerful boost to tourism and the local economy.

Organizers expect the race to stimulate commerce, with artisans, traders, and businesses encouraged to tap into opportunities from the influx of international visitors.

By hosting the event, Lagos not only cements its place on the global sporting map but also champions a greener future for marine transport across Africa.
